The client/adviser relationship traditionally spans what is known as a fiduciary arrangement.
This means my role as your adviser is to ensure I act in your financial best interests.
Any advice I give, anything I help you with in financial terms, my duty is to ensure your financial wellbeing.
This is an important part of the relationship, but in my way of working is not the totality of it.
Your financial success has to be contextualised, so that it helps you with a more fulfilling and happy life.
This brings in your wishes and desires, both current and future.
If we spend too much time gazing into the future and/or focused on just the money side of things, we might ignore the all-important now and your wider life ambitions.
In my experience too many people are paying attention to the destination, as opposed to the journey.
I work on the basis that you need me, as your adviser, to see things in this way. This means I take the time to connect with your wishes and desires, as this can make a big difference to my understanding of what you really need to do – or to aim for – with your financial planning.
